If you're considering enrolling your child in a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC), you may be wondering what’s needed to get started. Here are some of the requirements.
Doctor’s Referral
A physician must determine that your child would benefit from PPEC services. The referral shows that your child meets medical eligibility for daily nursing care.
Nursing Assessment
Once the referral is received, a licensed nursing staff will schedule a free in-person assessment at the center. This helps to understand your child’s specific needs and how they can be best supported.
Authorization from Medicaid
PPEC services are 100% covered by Florida Medicaid. After the assessment, centers help you obtain authorization through Medicaid. There’s no cost to families with Medicaid.
Enrollment Forms & Tour
Once approved, you will be walked through the enrollment paperwork and offer a tour of the center so you can see where your child will receive care, therapy, and support.

Common Qualifying Conditions:
G-tube, trach, or ventilator dependence
Seizures or epilepsy
Cerebral palsy or developmental delays
Prematurity-related complications
Genetic conditions (e.g., Down syndrome)
